Better to Give Than Receive

Last Sunday, Dec 8th, the Historical Society held it's "Christmas in the Village", which is a FREE event at our Clover Hill Village facility. Santa was on hand, handing out toys and posing for photos with young, old, and pets alike! (Due to privacy concerns, we did not include the children's photos). We provided Hot Apple Cider, Hot Chocolate, Brunswick Stew, Cookies, Roasted Chestnuts, and craft activities for all! We showed off our recently renovated buildings that were all decorated in the Christmas spirit and each building had it's own Christmas Tree. We are happy to announce that we collected a number of toys and monetary donations that we donated back to the community through the Appomattox Social Services.

We did however learn of a tragedy after our toys were donated, though! Pastor Larry & Cheryl Randall, of Candlelight Ministries, contacted the Society asking us to spread the word for one of their clients who is in desperate need this year! A local couple, who are grandparents to six children, were seeking ways to afford some gifts for these children, something that is very difficult on a limited income! Very recently, the husband, and grandfather of these children passed away! Now, the family is trying to cope with this death and a bare Christmas tree! The family is struggling trying to cover the approx $3,500 cost for a cremation service for the grandfather, which leaves no money for gifts! When these people stepped up to care for their grandchildren, it was a great deed, and now needing help, we need the community to step up and help out as well! Toys, gifts, clothing and monetary donations for this family will be greatly appreciated! Please look to helping out if you can!

To help this family, please contact Cheryl Randall at 434-238-2638 or on the Candlelight Ministries Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Candlelight-Ministries-402893669801925/ ) to find out what you can do to help!

Spread the Christmas spirit!
